Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Park

Today we visited the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Park which is located near the downtown Fremont Street area and is a fascinating place to visit!  The remains of the old fort as well as a simulation of the springs that used to be in the area--the springs dried up in the 1960s so now city water is pumped through a creek in the park to make it look like it used to when the springs were still a viable source of water for Las Vegas--make for an interesting place to check out for the entire family and if you stop by on a Saturday, you will likely find demonstrations ranging from cast iron cookery to blacksmithing to weaving and other old-time skills.  They even plant seasonal gardens to showcase the kinds of foods that can be grown in the desert.
