20 Emergency Resources for Las Vegas

A lot of scary stuff happens in Las Vegas, from crimes to car wrecks to fires and other emergency situations.  Here's a list of emergency resources for the city...

  1. Las Vegas Crime Map.  This site is useful to find out what sort of crime is happening in your neighborhood, determining where the "better" neighborhoods are if you are moving here, and for gathering data for projects and reports.
  2. LVMPD Current Traffic Incidents.  Current car accidents and other traffic incidents that Metro is being dispatched to are listed in chronological order here.
  3. NV Energy Outage List.  Find out where the power is out around the city and the estimated time that it will be restored at this website.
  4. SW Gas Outage Map.  Similar to the NV Energy site, check here to see where gas outages and incidents are in the city.
  5. Cox Cable Outage Report.  Ditto but for internet and cable outages.
  6. Las Vegas Emergency Incidents Facebook Group.  This FB group reports emergencies as they happen around Vegas via member reports and pictures as well as scanner reports.
  7. Nevada Highway Patrol Current Road Conditions and Incidents.  The NHP keeps this site updated with everything from road closures to accidents to anything else affecting Nevada highways.
  8. Nevada Sex Offender Website.  This site lists registered sex offenders in Nevada.
  9. Red Rock Search and Rescue.  This Las Vegas-area search and rescue organization does both wilderness and urban search and rescue operations.
  10. American Red Cross.  The SN ARC provides disaster assistance, preparedness training, military assistance, and help in the community when people are displaced by fires and other disasters.
  11. University Medical Center.  This is the only level 1 trauma center in the state; if someone is rushed to the hospital for serious trauma this is probably where they will be.
  12. Nevada 211.  This phone center (call 211) and website aggregate social service and emergency information in one location including domestic violence help, food aid, emergency housing, mental health, and other services.
  13. Nellis AFB Flying Operations.  Before you call 911 because your house was just buzzed by an F-22, check and see what kind of exercises are happening at our local air force base.
  14. Reddit.  This local bulletin board allows anyone to post questions about anything Las Vegas-related and get answers from the locals.
  15. Clark County Office of Emergency Management.  This county department focuses on preparedness, disaster mitigation, and recovery efforts.
  16. Nevada Division of Emergency Management.  Similar to the county office, this site provides a state-wide list of disaster and preparedness links.
  17. Nevada Earthquake Activity Map.  Feel rumbling?  Check this site and see if it was an earthquake.
  18. CCDC Inmate List.  If someone has been arrested in Clark County, check here to see if they are in the detention center.  If they are in the city jail, this is the inmate search link. Henderson Inmate Search link here.  And North Las Vegas detention list here.
  19. Apps.  Many apps have been developed to keep you up to date on local emergencies including Broadcastify, Scanner Radio, and Waze.  Local news apps are: Fox 5, News 3 LV, KTNV 13, 8 News Now, LVRJ Newspaper
  20. National Disaster Alerts: InciWeb (fire), Pacific Disaster Center (all disaster incidents), NOAA (weather)

  • CCFR Bee Safety.  We have Africanized bees in Las Vegas and early summer is when they tend to swarm.  Unlike regular honey bees, these bees can be deadly.
  • Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).  This site provides up-to-date road way information for Las Vegas and the entire state.
  • Tipsy Tow.  AAA provides a free ride home for you and your vehicle in Las Vegas during many holidays.  Call their 800 number at any time to inquire about this program.
  • Clark County Fire and Rescue.  The fire department provides a wide variety of safety services in Las Vegas.  Check out the great list of links on the right hand side of their webpage.
  • Nevada Amber Alert.  See how to prevent child abduction and check the latest Amber Alerts for the area at this website.
  • We Care Booklet.  Check out this excellent booklet put out by LVMPD with pages and pages of assistance information.
  • LVMPD Missing Persons.  People go missing in Las Vegas literally every day.  Here is what to do if you are missing an adult or if you are missing a child in the city.
  • LVMPD Sexual Assault Resources.  Unfortunately sexual assaults happen as often as people go missing here.  Check this link for what to do if you are a victim of sexual assault in Las Vegas.
  • Be Flood Safe.  A website and app to help you prepare for flash flood season.
